Primate State are a young three-piece rock band with bags of energy, strong musicianship and a natural chemistry on stage. Ned (14 - guitar/vocals), Theo (15 - bass) and Tym (16 - drums/keys) came together through school, having previously played alongside each other in various musical settings, and have already picked up a Gold Award at the Young Musicians Awards.
Their set spans everything from Arctic Monkeys, Jimi Hendrix and Red Hot Chili Peppers to Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Beatles and The Kinks. Ned brings accomplished guitar playing and a versatile lead vocal, Theo mixes rock bass with influences from funk, jazz and slap, while Tym drives the band on drums as well as being a highly skilled pianist and keyboard player.
They’re not afraid to put their own spin on a song either, adding different arrangements, individual flourishes and the occasional bit of improvisation, while also being able to strip things back for acoustic sets. Still only a few gigs into their journey, they’re already writing their own material and developing quickly. Young, talented and clearly having a great time playing together, Primate State are a band worth keeping an eye on.
